Capitalism - discredited, completely and finally
|
Capitalism has failed. And it's about time this FACT was understood. Those that deny it are simply misguided.
You don't have to look far to find proof in abundance.
Austerity in Europe - the result of another failed capitalist experiment.
The US economy - debt beyond the dreams of Avarice, the country is owned by China.
Egoism, so often hidden behind euphemisms like 'ethical' and 'rational', is a cancer in the belly of capitalism.
It's time to throw away the laissez-faire attitude that has messed up the world, and embrace altruism in its finest sense and let that be the guiding moral principle of our times.

You forgot:
INFIDELISM: You have two cows. You make one write a 10,000 page treatise on the mechanisms by which the market economy brings unending joy and prosperity to all farm animals. You make the other one read it. Both cows die of boredom and are taken to the meat market and sold.

Exacly. Even a mong can be a comedian and make a good living. If you start by believing others will help you out you will rarely achieve your best.

1985 - Socialism is not all getting paid the same. The core principle is simple: in a nutshell: "From each according to his ability, to each according to his need"

Some definitions to help those that may be struggling.
(I know it's old but it'll still be the most enjoyable post to read on this thread).
FEUDALISM: You have two cows. Your lord takes some of the milk.
PURE SOCIALISM: You have two cows. The government takes them and puts them in a barn with everyone else's cows. You have to take care of all the cows. The government gives you as much milk as you need.
BUREAUCRATIC SOCIALISM: You have two cows. The government takes them and puts them in a barn with everyone else's cows. They are cared for by ex-chicken farmers. You have to take care of the chickens the government took from the chicken farmers. The government gives you as much milk and as many eggs as the regulations say you should need.
FASCISM: You have two cows. The government takes both, hires you to take care of them, and sells you the milk.
PURE COMMUNISM: You have two cows. Your neighbours help you take care of them, and you all share the milk.
RUSSIAN COMMUNISM: You have two cows. You have to take care of them, but the government takes all the milk.
DICTATORSHIP: You have two cows. The government takes both and shoots you.
SINGAPOREAN DEMOCRACY: You have two cows. The government fines you for keeping two unlicensed farm animals in an apartment.
MILITARIANISM: You have two cows. The government takes both and drafts you.
PURE DEMOCRACY: You have two cows. Your neighbours decide who gets the milk.
REPRESENTATIVE DEMOCRACY: You have two cows. Your neighbours pick someone to tell you who gets the milk.
AMERICAN DEMOCRACY: The government promises to give you two cows if you vote for it. After the election, the president is impeached for speculating in cow futures. The press dubs the affair "Cowgate".
BRITISH DEMOCRACY: You have two cows. You feed them sheeps' brains and they go mad. The government doesn't do anything.
BUREAUCRACY: You have two cows. At first the government regulates what you can feed them and when you can milk them. Then it pays you not to milk them. After that it takes both, shoots one, milks the other and pours the milk down the drain. Then it requires you to fill out forms accounting for the missing cows..
ANARCHY: You have two cows. Either you sell the milk at a fair price or your neighbours try to kill you and take the cows.
CAPITALISM: You have two cows. You sell one and buy a bull.
HONG KONG CAPITALISM: You have two cows. You sell three of them to your publicly - listed company, using letters of credit opened by your brother - in - law at the bank, then execute a debt / equity swap with associated general offer so that you get all four cows back, with a tax deduction for keeping five cows. The milk rights of six cows are transferred via a Panamanian intermediary to a Cayman Islands company secretly owned by the majority shareholder, who sells the rights to all seven cows' milk back to the listed company. The annual report says that the company owns eight cows, with an option on one more. Meanwhile, you kill the two cows because the fung shiu is bad.
ENVIRONMENTALISM: You have two cows. The government bans you from milking or killing them.
FEMINISM: You have two cows. They get married and adopt a veal calf.
TOTALITARIANISM: You have two cows. The government takes them and denies they ever existed. Milk is banned.
COUNTER CULTURE: Wow, dude, there's like... these two cows, man. You got to have some of this milk.
SURREALISM: You have two giraffes. The government requires you to take harmonica lessons.
LIBERTARIANISM: You have two cows. One has actually read the constitution, believes in it, and has some really good ideas about government. The cow runs for office, and while most people agree that the cow is the best candidate, nobody except the other cow votes for her because they think it would be "throwing their vote away."

thanks H&P. I still don't get it though. Does it mean that whatever jobs we do we should all get the same pay or something. How would the wealth be evenly distributed?

Socialism isn't an ideology, it's a curse.
It's the political equivalent of cancer and those who advocate it are dangerously stupid.

So there's no 'trickle down' effect in a market economy then?
Read The Road To Wigan Pier and discover what life was like for working class people in England in 1937. It's absolutely heartbreaking and as bad as anything seen in Africa today (Orwell claimed it was actually worse because of the misery caused by cold weather).
Now compare the lives of working class people today to the families Orwell interviewed for his book and try to tell me there has been no trickle down effect.
Some of the people on here are so ignorant it's beyond belief.

Socialism is an ideology, like christianity, that tells you the State can run your affairs better than you can because left to your own devices you will be gobbled up by a nasty capitalist in the jungle that is the free market. It stands for maximum redistribution of the wealth produced by labour and the minimum of individual initiative.

Re: Capitalism - discredited, completely and finally

One of the reasons the US Fed cannot raise its interest rates beyond a certain, and pretty low, level is the amount of T-bonds and the like held in Asia. This is excellent news for the world as capitalists must look elsewhere than Fed paper for their revenues, and actual profit-making business will only benefit.
The problem with capitalism as it progresses is not so much over-production and a lack of supply of labour at competitive prices as Marx predicted, but its tendency to disappear up its own bureaucratic arsehole as money holders grow risk averse, hence the deflation we are seeing today. So it was Weber and not Marx who seems to have got it right for the time being.

Could someone please explain, in a short paragraph, exactly what socialism is?
I've looked on wikipedia but it's such a huge article and it says that there is no general definition that covers all forms of socialism. I couldn't be arsed to read the whole article. What is it in a nutshell, what are the principles of socialism?

Ron 7.16 - 'Hmmm, who to believe, neil? You or all the financial experts that say China could pull the pin on the US&A at anytime it so chooses.'
How would that work exactly Ron? That's nonsense mate. The Chinese do own huge amounts of US debt. If it isn't repaid it is they who are fucked as their wealth, hoarded in T Bills, evaporates. I don't for a moment think that that will happen but whilst the notion of China holding sway over the US might appeal to your sensibilities, from the point of view of practical economics, its bollocks.
And in point of fact the Chinese don't hold any more US debt than the Japanese, and most of it is still held domestically not least because of its QE programme.

Of course Capitalism is wrong and shit but what are the alternatives?...
At the end of the day, there are always going to be a few selfish, greedy cunts at the top who live better than anyone else - no matter what model we adopt for living...
Humans are selfish, greedy cunts... Some more than others... That's the root of all problems...
